ALWAR DEANERY
DEAN REV. FR. RENEESH JOSEPH

ALWAR

The earliest Christian presence was felt in the 18th century and the first record of priests visiting the area goes back to 1870s. This station was visited by priests from Bandikui and Agra. Until 1951 this station remained under the Arch diocese of Agra. Then it was transferred to Ajmer diocese. A small dome shaped Church was built on the land given by the Raja of Alwar in 1897 and is one of the oldest in the State. The first residential priest was Fr. Jose Anikatt who was sent there to open a school. He began the school in a rented building in 1987 and later a plot of land was bought and the school was shifted to the newly constructed building in 1988. In the same year, the C.M.C. Sisters of Kanjirapally Province opened a convent to help in the school and in the Parish. The Missionaries of Charity (MC) Sisters opened an Ashram to serve the disabled and other needy patients on 7th October 1993. In 1994, they started a Shishu Bhawan too.

BANDIKUI

Bandikui was a small Railway Colony with a good number of Catholics during the time of British rule. But after the Independence most of them left and few local Catholics remained there. The mission station was visited by missionaries from Agra, since 1870, and then there must have been a small but flourishing Catholic community. The first Church to be built in Rajasthan, apart from Jaipur, was that of Bandikui. It was built in 1886 and the Priest’s house was built in 1893. Fr. Macedo became the first Parish Priest. In the year 1957 at the request of Fr. Amandus OFM. Cap., Prabhudasi Sisters of Ajmer went there to help in the apostolate. They opened an Ashram in the year 1959 and later on they opened a Hindi Medium School and a Dispensary and visited the houses in the villages. In the beginning the Sisters lived in the Railway quarters and educated the children under the shade of the trees in the church campus. Later a bigger plot of land was purchased by the Diocese near the Railway Colony and buildings were constructed for a Convent, School and Hospital. Considering the needs of the time and the continuous demand of the parents, an English Medium School was started in 2005.
